Why these Macs?
Running an AI locally takes a lot of fast memory. Apple Max and Pro chips share their unified memory (24 to 32 GB) between processor and graphics: that is what lets the assistant answer smoothly, with no remote server.

Do I need an internet connection?
No. The assistant runs entirely on the Mac, even offline. The internet is only for your other uses.
Are my documents sent anywhere?
No. Everything is processed on the Mac: nothing goes to an online service, no telemetry.
Is there a subscription or an account?
No. No account, no monthly fee: the assistant comes with the Mac.
Is it as powerful as an online assistant?
A model running locally is more modest than the largest online models, but it is plenty for everyday drafting, summarising, translating and answering, with the benefit of privacy.
Is it still a normal Mac?
Yes. macOS is installed as on any Mac refurbished by iz fix; the assistant is one app among others.
